NY: Knopf, 1971. First edition. xxix + 586 pp w/notes and index of titles & first lines. Light foxing along top edge, else very near fine in very near fine dust jacket. Edited by Donald Allen with an introduction by John Ashbery. First issue binding, first issue dust jacket. This dust jacket was deemed unsuitable by members of O’Hara’s family, and quickly replaced with a completely different, and very dull, typographic design. Regarding this earlier binding, Alexander Smith in his bibliography notes, “In addition to having the dust jacket designed by Larry Rivers, these copies are printed in gold on the front and back covers; subsequently, the covers were stamped blind.” The copies described are those shipped to reviewers and the first shipments on advance orders.
