I’M ALIVE! AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY.
San Francisco and NY: Harper & Row (1980). First edition. Fine in dust jacket, which has two tiny chips and is slightly faded at spine. Autobiography of this controversial African-American minister (of Glide Church), who has played a key role in San Francisco liberal politics (and social services) for decades. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author to his old friend and comrade in struggle, Kay Boyle: “To Kay / your love your life your courage have helped me say I’m Alive / Cecil Williams.” Presented to Boyle with an envelope laid down on front free endpaper, containing a provocatively illustrated invitation to the publication party for this book at Glide Church. Both envelope and invitation are still present.
