Translated by Anthony Kahn and Lawrence Ferlinghetti. Contains two political poems by Yevtushenko, both written in reaction to murders in the United States. ‘The Freedom to Kill’ was written after Robert F Kennedy’s assassination; ‘Flowers and Bullets’ is an elegy for Allison Krause, one of the four students killed at Kent State.
